Generosity of Karna

Image
Lord Krishna always had a soft corner for Karna. Duryodhana would often call himself as a generous one. Lord Krishna decided to test who is more generous, Duryodhana or Karna.              It was a rainy season. Lord Krishna disguised himself as an old man. At first, he went to Duryodhan's palace. He met Duryodhan and told that he was in urgent need of dry wood.               He wanted dry wood so that he could make use of it as fuel to cook food for his daughter's marriage. Duryodhan replied that in rainy season it was impossible to get dry wood. He then turned the old man out.             Lord Krishna, disguised as old man, went to Karna's palace and requested Karna to give dry wood. Karna greeted the old man with respect and made him sit in a chair and paid obeisance.            He then told the old man that ...

Birth of Lakshmi and Alakshmi

Image
When devas and asuras churned the ocean of milk, Lakshmi arose from the ocean. Along with Lakshmi arose Alakshmi in the form of  aalahaal poison.         Alakshmi is the elder sister of Lakshmi. She is the goddess of conflicts. If Lakshmi is the grain, then Alakshmi is the bran. If Lakshmi is the juicy pulp of a fruit, then Alakshmi is the seed which can't be eaten.    Whenever Lakshmi enters a house, Alakshmi accompanies her into that house in the form of quarrels. The two always comes together.               Everyone accepts Lakshmi and desires for gifts that accompany her but no one accepts Alakshmi but simply rejects her.               Lakshmi is love, affection and Alakshmi is conflict. The difference between them was created by Maya.

Maharishi Suka's realisation

Image
As soon as Maharishi Suka was born, he started heading towards the sky which shocked his father sage Vyasa. His father cried and begged him to return back.             Since rishi Suka had heard the hymns of Veda when he was in his mother's womb, he knew the difference between finite truth (Maha Maya) and infinite truth (Yoga Maya).           He was not interested in worldly affairs. So he refused to look back when his father cried out for him. So, to make him come back, sage Vyasa started describing the beauty of lord Krishna.           "His lotus feet, peacock feather in the crown, sandal paste mark over the forehead, his mysterious smile, curly hair, garland of fresh flowers, his sparkling eyes, flute in the hand" description went on.            This beautiful description made rishi Suka stop in the midway of earth and sky. He started...

He knew the difference between finite truth and infinite truth.              He did not want to indulge himself in the worldly pleasures. He wanted to experience infinity. Birth of Maya

Image
The imagination of death frightens Brahma. He avoids the aspect of nature that frightens him and desires the aspect of nature that gives him comfort. This desire for comfort and shunning of fear gives birth to a goddess Maya.                Maya is a measuring scale. She is an aspect for material reality and comfort. The name of nature is Prakriti. Prakriti is physical and Maya is mental.              Brahma needs Maya to survive nature. He observes and experiences nature through Maya. Brahma measures nature with the help of Maya.           Maya enables Brahma to judge the nature whether it is good or bad, right or wrong etc. This ability of judging the nature and the world makes Brahma more powerful.
