Matsya Avatar (Incarnation - I)

Image
Once there lived a demon called Panchajanya. Often he tortured Devas and maharishis and made them scream.          Once Panchajanya stole vedas from Manu and vanished off. Devas were not able to find him. He went deep into the sea and hid the Vedas at the bottom of the sea.          Devas were not able to find where Vedas were kept. So they surrendered themselves to Sreeman Narayana and prayed for his help. The lord appeared before them and told that he would get back the Vedas safely.           At that time, pralaya claimed the earth. Sreeman Narayana took the form of a fish and fought with the demons and defeated them and finally killed the demon Panchajanya.           The lord rescued the Vedas and handed it over to Manu. He then turned Panchajanya into conch shell 🐚. Whenever the lord blew it, every one heard the secret of Vedas in that yug or era. ...

Marriage of Ghatotkach and Mauravi.

Image
Pandu's second son Bhim Sen married demoness Hidimbi in the forest. Hidimbi gave birth to Gatotkach. Before marriage, Hidimbi took a vow that she would not enter the royal family and she would reside in the forest for ever. She grew her son Gatotkach alone.            Mauravi was the daughter of Mura, a demon. Mura was the chief commander of Narakasura's army. He was killed by lord Krishna in the battle that took place between Narakasura and lord Krishna in Pragjyotishpur (Narakasura's capital). Hence Krishna was also called as Murahari.         Mauravi was very strong both physically and mentally. Also, she was an egoistic lady. Those who came to marry her were not able to defeat her in both brawn and brain. They were killed by her.        After the battle between Narakasura and Krishna was over, Maya appeared before Mauravi and told Mauravi to surrender herself to lord Krish...

Barbarik - a man who had the ability to defeat both Kauravas and Pandavas

Image
Pandu's second son Bhim Sen married Hidimbi, a demoness after having killed her brother Hidimba. They both had a son Ghatotkach, a demon.             Ghatotkach married Maurvi after facing several obstacles. Maurvi gave birth to a baby boy who had thick and curly hair. He was named Barbarik because of the nature of his hair.              At his early age, Barbarik learnt the art of archery from his grandmother Hidimbi. Later on, he was sent to guru Vijay Siddhasen to learn archery.            Guru Vijay Siddhasen gifted Barbarik with three arrows out of which one had the capability of aiming all the enemies (even hidden enemies) at a shot.            The second arrow had the capability of destroying all the enemies and the third one was a spare arrow.          Barbarik had promised his guru that al...

Generosity of Karna

Image
Lord Krishna always had a soft corner for Karna. Duryodhana would often call himself as a generous one. Lord Krishna decided to test who is more generous, Duryodhana or Karna.              It was a rainy season. Lord Krishna disguised himself as an old man. At first, he went to Duryodhan's palace. He met Duryodhan and told that he was in urgent need of dry wood.               He wanted dry wood so that he could make use of it as fuel to cook food for his daughter's marriage. Duryodhan replied that in rainy season it was impossible to get dry wood. He then turned the old man out.             Lord Krishna, disguised as old man, went to Karna's palace and requested Karna to give dry wood. Karna greeted the old man with respect and made him sit in a chair and paid obeisance.            He then told the old man that ...

Arun - Garuda's brother

Image
Sage Kashyap had two wives named Vinata and Kathru. The eldest one was Vinata and the youngest one was Kathru. They both became pregnant with the grace of sage Kashyap.            Vinata bore two ova (eggs in uterus) and Kathru bore one hundred and five ova. The time came and the younger one Kathru gave birth to serpents.       AdiSesha, Vasuki and one hundred and two more male serpents were born to Kathru. Out of one hundred and five serpents, only one was female and her name was Jarathkaru.         Vinata became furious and she broke one of the ova by striking her stomach and the egg broke. Out came Arun without legs. Since he came out of the egg before the prescribed time, he was born physically disabled.  This made him angry and he cursed his mother for breaking the egg and making him disabled. He cursed that Vinata would become a slave of Kathru and serve her. ...

Birth of Lakshmi and Alakshmi

Image
When devas and asuras churned the ocean of milk, Lakshmi arose from the ocean. Along with Lakshmi arose Alakshmi in the form of  aalahaal poison.         Alakshmi is the elder sister of Lakshmi. She is the goddess of conflicts. If Lakshmi is the grain, then Alakshmi is the bran. If Lakshmi is the juicy pulp of a fruit, then Alakshmi is the seed which can't be eaten.    Whenever Lakshmi enters a house, Alakshmi accompanies her into that house in the form of quarrels. The two always comes together.               Everyone accepts Lakshmi and desires for gifts that accompany her but no one accepts Alakshmi but simply rejects her.               Lakshmi is love, affection and Alakshmi is conflict. The difference between them was created by Maya.

Maharishi Suka's realisation

Image
As soon as Maharishi Suka was born, he started heading towards the sky which shocked his father sage Vyasa. His father cried and begged him to return back.             Since rishi Suka had heard the hymns of Veda when he was in his mother's womb, he knew the difference between finite truth (Maha Maya) and infinite truth (Yoga Maya).           He was not interested in worldly affairs. So he refused to look back when his father cried out for him. So, to make him come back, sage Vyasa started describing the beauty of lord Krishna.           "His lotus feet, peacock feather in the crown, sandal paste mark over the forehead, his mysterious smile, curly hair, garland of fresh flowers, his sparkling eyes, flute in the hand" description went on.            This beautiful description made rishi Suka stop in the midway of earth and sky. He started...

Birth of Maharishi Suka

Image
Maharishi Suka was the son of great sage Vyasa. He had a parrot head. When he was in his mother's womb, he refused to leave the womb after the completion of ten months in the womb. Sage Vyasa requested him to come out to the world but he neglected it. After twelve years of prolonged pregnancy of his mother, he came out to the world.                Since he did not want to trouble his pregnant mother he embraced the world. He did not have the whim to experience the material reality of the world.              While he was in his mother's womb, he had heard his father chanting hymns of the Veda. He knew the difference between finite truth and infinite truth.              He did not want to indulge himself in the worldly pleasures. He wanted to experience infinity. He wanted to reach the abode of lord Sreeman Narayana and becoming one...

Birth of Maya

Image
The imagination of death frightens Brahma. He avoids the aspect of nature that frightens him and desires the aspect of nature that gives him comfort. This desire for comfort and shunning of fear gives birth to a goddess Maya.                Maya is a measuring scale. She is an aspect for material reality and comfort. The name of nature is Prakriti. Prakriti is physical and Maya is mental.              Brahma needs Maya to survive nature. He observes and experiences nature through Maya. Brahma measures nature with the help of Maya.           Maya enables Brahma to judge the nature whether it is good or bad, right or wrong etc. This ability of judging the nature and the world makes Brahma more powerful.

Why Brahma is not worshipped?

Image
The human mind or Brahma, observes that the nature changes from place to place. There are vast oceans, deserts, ice cold mountains, rainy forests etc.         Even if we sit in one place and observe the nature, we can find that it changes from time to time. Sun rises and sets, moon waxes and wanes, the celestial sphere (earth) revolves around the pole star (sun). Everything that is born eventually dies.        Inside mother's womb, everything is immovable and comfortable. Being an unborn baby, nothing is expected. But, outside, everything moves and everyone have to act to survive.         Nature is Saraswati, the restless goddess who takes multiple forms. This frightens Brahma to the core.       Brahma or human mind is blessed with imagination. He imagines a time when nature fulfills his desire which gives him joy. He imagines a time when nature overwhelms him. This frightens hi...

Aham Brahmasmi

Image
The birth of Brahma represents the birth of human consciousness. The consciousness represented by Brahma is finite. But it has the capability of leading to the realisation of infinite consciousness which is Brahman.          'Aham Brahmasmi' is a Vedic maxim. It means "I'm Brahma (finite consciousness)" as well as "I'm Brahman (infinite consciousness)"         I'm Brahma - this is the acknowledgement of the finite truth of the universe. This connects the individual consciousness with the universe consciousness with has been unravelled.         I'm Brahman - this is the aspiration to connect with the universal infinite truth that awaits unravelling.         Thus the Vedic maxim "Aham Brahmasmi" increases the connectivity of human mind with the cosmic from known to unknown.

Birth of Brahma

Image
When Sreeman Narayanan awakens from his deep slumber, a lotus blooms from his navel. Above the lotus sits Brahma.        Brahma is the child who slips out of the mother's womb. As soon as he slips, he starts sensing the stimuli from the outside world. It is an experience that differs from the one he obtained in his mother's womb. This is his first contact with nature.       Brahma realises that he is different from the nature. He is distinct from it.  He realises this with the help of purusha or human form within him but he is unaware of purusha.     As soon as his self awareness increases, he starts depersonalizing nature. Thus the birth of Brahma represents the birth of human consciousness.

Secret of lord Vishnu's serpent

Image
Greetings for the day!!!   Sreeman Narayanan sleeps on the coils of a serpent which has many hoods. The serpent is called Adi - Ananta - Sesha which represents the time.           Adi - the word Adi represents primary sensation. When Sreeman Narayanan wakens up from slumber, the world starts existing. When we wake up from sleep, we can feel the flow of time (for example, when we open our eyes from sleep, our brain starts asking "what's the time now?"). This is called primary sensation and mathematically it is denoted as one or the beginning.        Ananta - the word Ananta represents infinite or uncountable. When Sreeman Narayanan is awaken, the universe starts evolving and the flow of time can be felt. When we are in awaken state, we perceive the universe in infinite ways. This is the ultimate sensation and is mathematically represented as infinity.       Sesha - the word Se...

Srichoornam - Significance of Lord Vishnu

Image
The sacred mark of Vishnu - Srichoornam or Urdhva namam or Thiruman should be worn in twelve places in the body from head to stomach.                The left white line of Srichoornam indicates intellectual reality and right white line indicates emotional reality. Both the lines together indicate spiritual reality. The middle red line indicates material reality.             The upward orientation of these three lines indicates spiritual growth and material growth.             Vishnu is God who celebrates infinite growth, both material and spiritual.             Spiritual growth is the super power to overcome the emotions so that one gets the wisdom to appreciate and enjoy all things whether it is materialistic or immaterialistic.             One is happy when the material world favours and not unhappy when it is...
